A Guide to A-Level Geography at APS

Why study AS/AS Geography?

This course allows students to examine some of the most important geographical and environmental issues facing the planet in the 21st Century. It emphasises a balanced understanding of physical and human geography, with a focus on understanding the interrelationships between people and their environment. This course will appeal to those students who:

  • have an interest in and concern for the environment
  • are interested in current affairs
  • enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives and experiences
  • want the opportunity to carry out practical work outdoors as well as class work

The geography course compliments a range of AS levels.

 


 

What will I study?

The AS is a one-year course consisting of three modules.  One of the modules involves completing a piece of coursework.

The full A level is gained by completing three more modules in the second year.

 


 

What are the entry requirements?

Students must have at least a grade C or above in Geography GCSE. Students would also be accepted onto the course with five A*-C grades  - one of which must be English. If a student has not taken GCSE. Geography, it is recommended that they have 5 A and B grades in other subjects

 


 

What careers or areas of further study could the course lead to?

Geography is a highly respected A-level by employers and universities.  It provides skills in;
